Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

The Project

Ahead of the 2026 season, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders partnered with Visua to complete a comprehensive renovation of the ballpark’s video, production, and audio systems.
The project included the decommissioning and replacement of the existing left-field video board, the installation of five additional LED displays throughout the facility, a complete rebuild of the control room, and significant upgrades to the stadium’s audio system.
With opening day rapidly approaching, the entire project had to be completed within a highly compressed installation schedule. Visua coordinated the removal, installation, commissioning, content setup, testing, and training required to ensure every system was operational before the first pitch of the season.

The Challenge

The RailRiders’ existing technology infrastructure had reached the end of its useful life.
The main video display needed to be removed and replaced, while additional display locations were needed to improve content visibility and create more opportunities for fan engagement, sponsorship activation, and game-day presentation.
Inside the control room, years of accumulated equipment and cabling had created an over-designed and inefficient production environment. Much of the technology was outdated or no longer in use, leaving the room crowded and difficult for the production team to operate.
The stadium’s audio system presented similar challenges. Aging amplifiers were beginning to fail, several speakers were inactive, and the existing physical mixer provided limited control over audio levels and zones throughout the facility.
The most significant challenge, however, was time. All demolition, installation, integration, programming, testing, and training had to be completed before opening day.

The Solution

Six New LED Displays: Visua decommissioned and removed the existing left-field displays, banners, and scoreboard before installing a new main video board measuring approximately 61 feet wide by 48 feet tall.
The 10.4-millimeter display features a resolution of 1,776 pixels wide by 1,392 pixels tall, giving the RailRiders a large, high-impact platform for live video, replays, statistics, animations, sponsor content, and in-game entertainment.

A new right-field ribbon board was also installed. Measuring approximately 151 feet wide by 6.6 feet tall, the display has a resolution of 4,416 by 192 pixels at a 10.4-millimeter pixel pitch.

Two additional fascia ribbons were installed along the first- and third-base sides. Each display measures approximately 40 feet wide by 2.5 feet tall and provides a resolution of 1,152 by 72 pixels.

At the front of the facility, Visua added two entrance-gate ribbons to extend the digital experience beyond the seating bowl. Each 6-millimeter display measures approximately 20 feet wide by 3.3 feet tall and features a resolution of 864 by 144 pixels.

Across the six displays, Visua created 10 configurable content zones. This gives the RailRiders the flexibility to operate each display independently or coordinate content across multiple surfaces.

Motion Rocket LaunchPad Pro and NovaStar processing provide the team with centralized control over the entire display network. Visua also supported the development and implementation of creative graphics and provided on-site commissioning and game-day support.

A Rebuilt Control Room: Rather than adding new technology on top of an outdated infrastructure, Visua completely gutted and rebuilt the RailRiders’ control room.

Unused equipment and obsolete cabling were removed, new counters were installed, and the rack layout was consolidated. The result is a cleaner, more spacious production environment that is easier for operators to navigate and maintain.

The new production system includes a TriCaster TC1 live-production switcher and a 3Play 3P2 replay system. Flowics was implemented for broadcast graphics, while a Blackmagic Design 40-by-40 router provides flexible signal routing throughout the production workflow.

Visua also supplied a new wireless camera system built around a Blackmagic URSA camera and a Teradek Ranger wireless-video platform.

Five new BirdDog O4 PTZ cameras were installed throughout the ballpark, including positions in center field, both dugouts, and the concourse areas. The installation included all new cabling required to support the cameras and integrate them into the production system.

A Riedel intercom system was added to improve communication between production personnel, camera operators, and other game-day staff.

Together, these upgrades give the RailRiders a streamlined and flexible production workflow capable of supporting live video, replays, graphics, sponsor content, and in-game entertainment across every display.

A More Controllable Audio System: Visua also completed a major renovation of the stadium’s audio infrastructure. The outdated physical mixing console was replaced with a new digital mixer, giving operators more precise control over speaker zones and sound levels throughout the ballpark.

Failing amplifiers were replaced with new Crown DCI amplifiers, and inactive portions of the system were restored. Additional pole-mounted speakers were installed along both the right-field and left-field lines to improve coverage in areas that had previously been difficult to reach.

The upgraded system provides more consistent sound, easier day-to-day operation, and greater flexibility for adjusting audio levels in different areas of the facility.

Visua commissioned the system and trained the RailRiders’ staff to manage zones, adjust levels, and operate the new equipment confidently.

The Result

Despite the compressed schedule, Visua completed the project in time for opening day.
The RailRiders entered the 2026 season with a fully modernized game-day presentation system that includes six new LED displays, 10 configurable content zones, a rebuilt production control room, new camera and replay capabilities, and a significantly improved audio system.
The new displays give the team more ways to engage fans, present live content, and deliver value to sponsors throughout the ballpark. The redesigned control room gives production personnel a cleaner, more efficient workspace, while the new audio infrastructure provides improved coverage and greater control.
According to feedback from the organization, the stadium’s sound and overall fan experience have never been better.
